ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a series of crashes involving 29 vehicles. It happened just after 5 pm Sunday on Interstate 70 just north of the Zumbehl Road exit. Everyone involved survived. The MSHP estimates 6 people were transported for injuries. None of those injuries was life-threatening.
One witness told us one car spun out of control, and that triggered a series of accidents. Westbound I-70 was closed for nearly 4 hours while crews cleared the wreckage and investigated. There was also a traffic backup on eastbound I-70 as drivers slowed down as they drove past the accident scene.
The crashes came just as a thunderstorm passed through the area. Westbound I-70 re-opened shortly after 9pm Sunday.
