Man Swept Away By Flood Waters With His Pet Racoon

Old Monroe, Mo. – Some of the floodwater is receding in Lincoln County, Mo., but rescue crews remind people of the ongoing danger of a swift-moving Cuiver River.

One man learned that the hard way Tuesday, and rescue crews say he is lucky to be alive.

“I was just trying to get to my house,” explained John Rey, who lives along the Cuivre River. He attempted to swim across the floodwater to retrieve some things from his home, including his pet raccoon Sly. But the current quickly swept him downstream.
