Amazon Brings 1,500 Jobs To St. Charles County With New Fulfillment Facility

ST. PETERS, MO – Amazon’s first fulfillment center in Missouri will be located in St. Peters. Amazon.com, Inc.’s overnight announcement also included that the new center will create more than 1,500 full-time jobs. “We’re excited to continue growing our team with our first, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Missouri,” said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s Vice President of North America Customer Fulfillment. “Our ability to expand in Missouri is the result of two things: incredible customers and an outstanding workforce. Amazon is committed to providing great opportunities for employment and creating a positive economic impact for the region.” The 800,000 square foot center will feature innovative technology, such as Amazon Robotics, that will assist employees in fulfilling customer orders, the company said in a press release. “We are pleased that Amazon has chosen the City of St. Peters as the site for its new fulfillment center,” said County Executive Steve Ehlmann. “This is a major investment that reflects the growing shift to e-commerce and will add more than 1,500 new, full-time jobs in St. Charles County. Amazon’s decision is just one more indication that St. Charles County is being recognized as an exceptional place to live, work and do business.” The company currently has a sort facility in Hazelwood. Groundbreaking on the new fulfillment center, which will be located in the Premier 370 Business Park, is scheduled to start by the end of March, with the center expected to open on May 1, 2019. Tax incentives such as a property abatement were part of the deal to lure Amazon, but there is no word on the dollar amount.
