2 women shot, 1 killed in St. Charles apartment near casino

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – An investigation is underway after two women were shot and one was killed Saturday afternoon in an apartment near a St. Charles casino.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Ameristar Boulevard, near the Ameristar Casino and Resort. Police say a 37-year-old woman died from her injuries and a 32-year-old woman is being treated at a hospital.

Police say both women were shot in the head, but the second victim is expected to survive. Two boys, ages 6 and 8, were also inside the apartment when police arrived. The boys were taken into protective custody and have been united with another family member.

Investigators say a 29-year-old man accused in the shooting took off briefly after it happened, though has since turned himself into police. The suspect, not yet formally charged by prosecutors, is in custody in St. Charles County. Officers also seized his Ford Fusion vehicle.
