Smoke rising from industrial park fire in Sauget, Illinois

SAUGET, Ill. – Smoke can be seen rising across the Mississippi River from a fire in the Metro East.

Multiple agencies responded to the fire at Eagle Industrial Park on Mississippi Avenue.

The call came in at roughly 4:15 p.m., and crews have been battling the flames for hours.

“I was bringing my grandson back to his grandpa’s and I see all this smoke. So I dropped him off and came up here to investigate, and this is what I found,” said Dana Barrett.

It’s unknown if there were any injuries or if there were individuals inside.

Barrett said she immediately put on a mask after seeing the flames.

“I grabbed a mask and put it over my face because it’s all chemicals over there. So you don’t need to be breathing this stuff in,” she said. “I could smell the chemicals all the way in St. Joseph’s Garden right here in Cahokia.”

Not too long ago, there was a massive fire at a metal recycling warehouse in Madison, Illinois that smoldered for a week.

This is a developing story. FOX 2 will have more information as it becomes available.
