I-55 closed in Madison County following single-vehicle crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – A stretch of Interstate 55 in northeast Madison County was closed Thursday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash.

According to Trooper Haylie Polistina, a spokeswoman for Illinois State Police Troop 8, the crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. at milepost 37 of northbound I-55.

A vehicle went off the roadway and overturned, state police said. Four people in the vehicle were injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

Northbound I-55 was closed between the Highway 4 and Staunton Road exits. The left lane of I-55 was reopened just before 5 p.m.

State police released no additional information.
