DUPO, Ill. – The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is investigating a double shooting late Monday morning that forced Dupo Jr./Sr. High School to be placed on lockdown.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m.
Officers with the Dupo Police Department were the first to arrive at the scene. They found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to hospitals in St. Louis, but one succumbed to their injuries.
Dupo Police Chief Dennis Plew requested the Major Case Squad’s assistance with the investigation.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
The school released a statement just after the lockdown went into effect:
I want to inform you that our schools are currently on lockdown due to shots fired in the community. The incident did NOT involve our students or staff. The police department reached out and instructed us to lock down the buildings out of an abundance of caution. As always safety is our top priority, and we are working closely with the Dupo Police Department and will lift the lockdown as soon as we are given the all-clear.
According to Dr. Victoria White, superintendent of the Dupo Community Unit School District 196, the school was scheduled for an early dismissal. However, due to the lockdown, the high school will remain sealed until authorities provide them with the all clear.
FOX 2 has a news crew in Dupo gathering additional information. It will be shared here as it becomes available.
